Remembering The Fallen

A Touch of Brass were honoured to participate in this weekend’s acts of remembrance with three members performing The Last Post.

On Friday, Nigel played at the New Marske Primary School remembrance event. Attended by all the children and staff together with members of the New Marske community, there were readings and a chance to reflect on the fallen or injured soldiers around the world and close to home. Nigel performed The Last Post perfectly reminding us all what a beautiful tone he has on the cornet.

On Saturday A Touch of Brass performed at the monthly Saltburn Farmers Market in the morning. With it being Armistice Day there was a 2 minute silence at 11 o’clock at which point Jayne (without prior notice or preparation) played a very poignant Last Post. Well done Jayne!

On Saturday and then again on Remembrance Sunday, the ensemble’s lead cornet player, Jen, performed The Last Post at two events with the Northallerton Silver Band (of which she is also the principal cornet player). Jen has performed at Northallerton every Remembrance weekend for many years and always plays beautifully.

In addition, several members of A Touch of Brass played at Remembrance Sunday services with the North Skelton, Cleveland Police and Northalllerton bands. It is an honour and a privilege for each of us to do so.
